Champion Cares Golf Invitational Marks 15th Year with a Record-Breaking $150,000 Raised
Money raised from the tournament also set a milestone for The Champion Cares Foundation.
(SUNBURY, OH) – On Friday, August 10, The Champion Cares Golf Invitational (CCGI) celebrated its 15th Anniversary in memorable fashion—by raising a record $150,000 for three Central Ohio charities.
The CCGI benefits The Champion Cares Foundation, which is the charitable initiative of Westerville-based multi-family firm The Champion Companies. The golf tournament is just one of several fundraising events throughout the year that brings together Champion’s business partners to help those in need in the community. More than 50 Central Ohio companies were represented at the sold-out tournament through sponsorship and golfers.
“We are fortunate that we get to work with companies that put a focus on social responsibility and graciously support the mission of the Champion Cares Foundation,” said Michelle Yeager-Thornton, co-founder and COO of The Champion Companies.
The beneficiaries of the 15th Anniversary CCGI were the Reeb Avenue Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus, and The YWCA Family Center. Representatives from the Boards of each organization were present at Northstar Golf Club to receive their $50,000 checks during a banquet after the round of golf.
In addition to celebrating the success of the CCGI, Yeager-Thornton took the opportunity to announce that this year’s tournament set a milestone for the Champion Cares Foundation by pushing its total funds raised for the community above $1 million.
Champion President and CEO Brian Yeager, who founded the tournament 15 years ago with his childhood friend, also gave thanks to those who have supported the tournament—some every year since inception. “The growth of the CCGI and the ever-increasing impact it’s had on the community would not be possible without the support of our business partners, friends and family,” he said. “We will continue to raise the bar year-after-year because we know that we are making a tangible difference in the lives of others.”
